Health & Nutrition Initiatives

Quality Improvement in AWCs services and strategic intervention for reduction in malnutrition

The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme is a globally recognized community based early child care programme, which addresses the basic interrelated needs of young children, expectant and nursing mothers and adolescent girls across the life cycle, in a holistic manner. ICDS is a response to the challenge of breaking a vicious cycle of malnutrition, impaired development, morbidity and mortality in young children, working in convergence with other flagship programmes such as National Rural Health Mission, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and others.

In Rajasthan, the status of malnutrition is similar to other north Indian States and the district which are predominated by tribal have larger problem of malnutrition. Only about 50 percent children in the age group of 0-5 years are in normal grade. This has been highlighted as per the department letter to UNICEF based on which the project for strengthening the services of Aanganbadi Centres (AWCs) has been planned and taken up with support from UNICEF.  CDECS has taken up project titled ‘Strengthening of ICDS centres and other related programmes in 2 Blocks each of Banswara & Dungarpur districts’.
